24-hour fitness centers in Beijing

“No time, fitness center not opened when I come back late from office” : No excuse for not participating in regular physical activity in Beijing: more and more fitness clubs are opened 24/24… and you should find more and more locations where you will be able to practice your favorite sport in Beijing, as the Central Government has launched a new policy aimed at boosting the investment in the sports industry… but also push people to practice exercise and maintain a healthy way of living in a country already facing public health challenges (growing obesity, pollution…).

It is even reported that China may be facing a shortage of trainers!

China government is encouraging regular exercise!

The State council has issued a national development plan for the sports industry aiming at boosting private investment in the sports industry while decreasing the dominationof theState-owned companies. The implementation of this policy is ongoing and we should little by little see the benefits of the government decision to free-up the sports market in China.

ditanparkSome of us may wonder if the government already anticipated that the next generation of elder people willnot consideranymore the participation to public gym activities in public parks as an option to practice sports!

China’s objectives:

  • Decrease focus on elite gold-medal-winning athletes and improve general levels of public fitness and well-being
  • Encourage enterprises to develop sporting resources including sporting events (currently all sporting events have to be approved by the GASC, which collects administration fees depending on the budget of each event).Currently, thegovernment owns and oversees the operation of all sporting events and leagues.
In large cities and megacities such asBeijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, thanks to the increase of living standards and disposable income, the Chinese middle class is now interested inlocal professional sports clubs are becoming more popular. We hope you noticed what’s happening in Sanlitun when the Beijing Football Club is playing a match.
Stadium can earn a revenuefrom hostinggames through ticket sales, advertising and merchandising. Recent internal competitions have shown that the gain is rather significant and stadium will behosting more games, and eventually a domestic league club to make full use of the infrastructures.

Sports industry racing to open upChina’s sporting industry targets

  • China’s sporting industry is expected to be worth more than 5 trillion yuan by 2025
  • China’s sporting industry should account for about 1 percent of GDP compared with 0.6 percent in 2012. This is still below US, where theannual value of thesports industry reached $450 billion in 2013 (~ 3 percent of GDP). Part of the growth could come fromcompetition-related activities, including venue operations, player endorsements and sales of broadcasting rights – sectors for which China is really underdeveloped.
  • Expected value of China’s sport sector by 2025: 5 trillion yuan
  • Target average sports ground area: 2 sqm per person by 2025
  • Target number of people practising regular physical activity: 500 million by 2015.
  • Tax incentive: 15% corporate income tax for high-tech sports companies (previously the tax was 25%)
